September 14, 2009 : Catherine J. Flynn and Marisa R. Kussoy Join Newark Office

Weber Gallagher Simpson Stapleton Fires & Newby LLP is pleased to announce the creation of the Firm's Health Care Law practice with the addition of partners Catherine J. Flynn and Marisa R. Kussoy to the Newark office.

Prior to joining Weber Gallagher, both attorneys were partners at Lindabury, McCormick, Estabrook & Cooper, a general-practice firm in central New Jersey. 

Ms. Flynn provides representation in the many evolving areas of health care law, protecting the interests of both institutional and individual clients. As the Chair of the Firm’s Health Care Law Practice Group, she counsels hospital, ambulatory care facility and nursing home clients on regulatory and compliance matters, medical staff bylaws, appointments and clinical privilege delineation issues, HIPAA, EMTALA, JCAHO accreditation, risk management and insurance coverage.  

As an active malpractice defense lawyer for over 22 years, Ms. Flynn has successfully argued cases before the New Jersey Supreme Court and the Appellate Division. She has represented physicians, nurses and other allied health professionals in over 100 jury trials. In addition to her malpractice defense experience, Ms. Flynn represents individual healthcare clients in administrative professional licensure matters. In 2008 and 2009, she was recognized as a “Super Lawyer” in the area of Health Care Law by the publishers of the New Jersey edition of Super Lawyers magazine.

A horse enthusiast, Ms. Flynn also counsels clients, from individual horse owners to large farms and associations, in all aspects of equine law. She is a member of the American Horse Council, the New Jersey Horse Council, American College of Equine Attorneys and the United States Equestrian Federation. Ms. Flynn will also serve as Chair of the Firm's Equine Law practice group.

Ms. Flynn is a graduate of St. Peter's College and Seton Hall University School of Law.

Marisa Kussoy's practice focuses on representation of health care providers and entities in various areas of health care law, including guardianships, discharge planning issues, licensure issues, electronic medical records, HIPAA compliance, professional negligence and general liability matters.   

Prior to entering private practice, Ms. Kussoy clerked with the Hon. Jared D. Honigfeld, New Jersey Superior Court - Law Division. She is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Madison and Hofstra University School of Law. Ms. Kussoy was recognized as a "Rising Star" in the area of Health Care Law by the publishers of the New Jersey edition of Super Lawyers magazine in 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2009.
