The firm's Medical Professional Liability group represents healthcare professionals and organizations throughout Pennsylvania and New Jersey. Our clients include hospitals and professional corporations, as well as physicians in all medical specialties.
The complexity of the litigation is as diverse as the clients we serve; the firm has represented the interests of healthcare providers in arbitration proceedings, jury trials, and before the appellate courts. Recently, the firm's attorneys obtained defense verdicts in jury trials on behalf of an oncologist in a wrongful death action, a hospital in an obstetrics case, and an orthopedic surgeon in a matter in which a young plaintiff suffered a severely debilitating stroke. The success we have achieved is a function of our attention to detail and our aggressive, yet cost-effective, approach to litigation.
In addition to courtroom litigation, our attorneys are experienced in the use of mediation and alternative dispute resolution. Several of our partners lecture on medical malpractice issues and have also been called upon to serve as mediators and judges pro tempore in the dispute resolution process.
Representative clients include the Pennsylvania Medical Society Liability Insurance Company (PMSLIC), Wexford Health Sources, Inc., Medical Care Availability and Reduction of Error Fund (MCARE Fund), the Medical Protective Company, Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, Opthalmic Mutual Insurance Company (OMIC), St. Luke's Hospital, The Reading Hospital and Temple University Hospital.
Our Medical Professional Liability practice group is chaired by Paula A. Koczan, who can be reached at 412.434.4780 or pkoczan@wglaw.com.
