Shawn Gooden exclusively represents workers’ compensation matters for employers, insurance companies, self-insured entities, and third-party administrators in a wide variety of workers' compensation matters across Pennsylvania.

With nearly 20 years of experience handling thousands of cases, Shawn is well versed in all workers’ compensation matters. He takes a common sense and pragmatic approach to his legal cases. Shawn focuses on being mindful of his clients’ cost and exposure, to reduce risk and save money in both the short and long term.

Shawn has developed a subspecialty in handling medical fee review cases on behalf of insurance carriers and employers.  He regularly appears before fee review hearing officers and the Commonwealth Court on issues of medical reimbursement, and he provides clients with unparalleled knowledge on how to handle these types of matters.

Shawn is certified as a specialist in the practice of workers’ compensation law by the Pennsylvania Bar Association’s Section on Workers’ Compensation Law as authorized by the Pennsylvania Supreme Court. He has extensive appellate experience before the Workers’ Compensation Appeal Board, the Commonwealth Court of Pennsylvania, and the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania.

Shawn is an adjunct professor of law at Widener University Commonwealth Law School. He is a regular presenter and lecturer on a wide variety of topics, including multiple presentations at the annual Department of Labor and Industry Workers’ Compensation Conference, the Section Meeting of the Workers Compensation Section of the Pennsylvania Bar Association, and the Pennsylvania Self-Insured’s Association.

In 2002, Shawn was the recipient of the Irvin Stander Award. This award is given by the workers’ compensation section of the Philadelphia Bar Association in memory of Irvin Stander, a Philadelphia Workers’ Compensation Judge who was known for his prolific writing on workers’ compensation and zoning law. The award recognizes an outstanding graduating law student who has demonstrated scholarship in the areas of administrative or workers’ compensation law.
