I cannot believe that it is already nearly mid-July. The year seems to be flying by. You may recall, in January we gave you a list of eight things for your HR Risk Management "to do" list. Now that we are half way through 2016, it's a good time to check-in on your to-do list. The full blog post from January can be found HERE, but here is the quick list:
1. Update your employee handbook;
2. Review independent contractor classification;
3. Re-examine employee exempt/non-exempt classification
4. Review your pay policies
5. Update your training
6. Review employee files
7. Review (or draft) written job descriptions
8. Review your forms and posters.
While all of these items are important, as we have said in previous blog posts and alerts, changes in overtime rules make 3, 4 and 5 even more important. With more employees being eligible for overtime, classifications, pay policies and job descriptions should be revisited and updated.
Addressing these eight items will go a long way to managing human resources risk. Of course, if you need help, we are here!
