Weber Gallagher Attorney Richard Ranieri to Speak at FETTI Conference on Glyphosate Litigation

06.21.18

Bedminster, NJ – June 21, 2018 – Richard S. Ranieri, Chair of Weber Gallagher’s Toxic Tort/Environmental Practice, will speak at the 2018 National Forum for Environmental and Toxic Tort Issues (FETTI) on glyphosate litigation.  The conference will be held in Chicago from September 26 to 28.  Glyphosate is a widely used herbicide and it is anticipated that the number of lawsuits against manufacturers, distributors and users of glyphosate will continue to grow exponentially in the next several years.

Ever since the International Agency for Research on Cancer published its report in 2015 finding that glyphosate, the main ingredient in Round- up and other herbicides, was a "probable carcinogen," there has been a growing wave of product liability lawsuits filed in federal and state courts primarily against manufacturer Monsanto, whereby plaintiffs claim that glyphosate caused his or her non-Hodgkin lymphoma or other forms of cancer. In addition to the early suits filed in Delaware, Hawaii and California, over 1,100 suits have been filed nationally against Monsanto with many of them combined in a MDL in federal court in San Francisco

In his legal practice, Ranieri handles complex environmental litigation claims and general liability matters. Ranieri defends cases in multiple state and federal courts alleging occupational exposure to asbestos and mass tort/toxic tort substances such as benzene, silica and lead.  His environmental practice includes handling matters involving genetically modified organisms, landfill contamination and hazardous spills.

Ranieri also represents self-insured entities, insurance companies and third-party administrators in general liability, construction and product liability matters. He routinely works with regulatory agencies on behalf of clients and has experience in alternative dispute resolution.

Ranieri is nationally certified as a civil trial advocate, and he is also certified by the New Jersey Supreme Court as a civil trial attorney.
