Moderator, "Workers' Compensation Bench Bar Conference," New Jersey State Bar Association Annual Meeting

12.15.21

This year’s conference featured two vital medical segments dealing with one of the most critical issues in 2021-22. First, Dr. Maryann Kezmarsky discussed the latest in long-haul COVID claims and mental health issues in the pandemic. Long-haul COVID symptoms have been in the news almost since the pandemic started. Yet, the fatigue and brain fog associated with long-haul sickness are difficult to prove. Dr. Kezmarksy, an esteemed medical professional with years of experience, explained the science behind long-haul COVID both and provide tips for proving and defending these cases.

The second medical segment was presented by Dr. W. Ian Lipkin.  He and his team implicated West Nile virus as the cause of the encephalitis epidemic in New York in 1999 and have discovered or characterized more than 500 infectious agents including Borna disease virus, West Nile virus, LuJo virus and human rhinovirus C. Dr. Lipkin assisted the WHO and the Peoples Republic of China during the 2003 SARS outbreak and currently advises the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in addressing the challenge of MERS. He also directs large programs focused on autism and chronic fatigue syndrome wherein gene-environment interactions such as infection and intoxication are postulated to cause disease.
