Partner John Kutner Discusses Medical Marijuana’s Affect in Workers’ Compensation Cases

John Kutner, a Partner in Weber Gallagher’s Warren office, will speak on a panel at the Claims & Litigation Management Alliance 2014 Workers’ Compensation Mini Conference on Oct. 24, in Costa Mesa, CA.  The panel is entitled, “Up in Smoke?  The Legalization of Marijuana for Medical and Recreational Use and its Impact on Workers’ Compensation.”

The panel will discuss marijuana laws in states where marijuana has been legalized for medical purposes.  Speakers will provide information on possible risks and benefits and its legitimacy for treating petitioners who are injured at work.  They will also give practical information on employers’ and employees’ rights under these laws.  The discussion will include the impact medical marijuana may have on employers, insurance carriers and third-party administrators.

The other panelists are Marie Johnson, Risk Manager, Elwyn Inc. and Edward Canavan, Vice President, Workers’ Compensation Practice and Compliance, Sedgwick.

 Kutner defends insurance carriers, self-insured companies and third-party administrators in workers’ compensation matters.   He also handles workers' compensation litigation for large transport companies.
