Weber Gallagher Elects Six New Partners

Philadelphia, August 1, 2022 — Weber Gallagher today announced the election of six new partners, effective August 1, 2022. The new partners span a cross section of the firm’s practices and offices.

The newly elected partners include the following attorneys:

Vanessa Mendelewski (Bedminster) defends insurance companies, self-insured employers, and third-party administrators in New Jersey workers’ compensation matters. Mendelewski has worked with hospitals, nursing homes, staffing agencies, retailers, and construction entities in workers’ compensation claims. She works with clients in both the public and private sectors to develop a comprehensive strategy to defend their workers’ compensation claims. Mendelewski handles claims in all categories under the New Jersey Workers’ Compensation Act and represents her clients in coverage disputes.

Lucas J. Csovelak (Harrisburg) focuses his practice on defending employers, insurance companies, and third-party administrators in workers' compensation matters in central Pennsylvania. Csovelak represents a variety of clients, including multinational package delivery companies, retail corporations, healthcare facilities, and insurance carriers. He is involved in all aspects of litigation, utilization reviews, depositions, mediations, hearings, and testimonies. Focused on managing risk and exposure, Csovelak conducts a thorough review of claims to provide clients with strategies to achieve cost-effective results. He has been instrumental in obtaining favorable decisions for clients before workers’ compensation judges, the Pennsylvania Workers' Compensation Appeal Board, and the Commonwealth Court.

Krista E. Shevlin (New Castle) is an experienced litigator defending clients in various insurance defense related issues including general liability, subrogation, premise liability, and employment matters Additionally, Shevlin handles the defense of motor vehicle accidents, construction defects, medical negligence, and product liability. Handling all phases of litigation up to and including trial, she works with her clients to develop defense strategies, negotiate settlements, attend alternative dispute resolutions, and interpret contract and lease language to provide the most cost-effective way to handle a case. Shevlin has successfully argued cases before the Supreme Court of Delaware, the District Court of Delaware, and the Appellate Court.

Patrick J. Cummings (Philadelphia) exclusively handles workers’ compensation matters for insurance carriers, third party administrators, and employers. Handling a wide variety of claims for a diverse client base — including trucking/transportation companies, casinos, higher education institutions, small family-owned businesses, food processing facilities, and convenience stores — provides Cummings with the dexterity and adaptability to deal with a wide range of matters. He has successfully litigated cases involving complex insurance coverage issues and obtained dismissals on behalf of insurance carriers in cases involving the Uninsured Employers Guaranty Fund.

Dawn M. Nicholson (Philadelphia) concentrates her practice on the defense of national and regional insurance carriers, third-party administrators, and self-insured in workers' compensation matters throughout Pennsylvania. Nicholson has successfully litigated clients in a variety of industries including commercial transportation, food and hospitality, retail, and manufacturing. She has handled all aspects of litigation from utilization review, depositions, mediations, hearings, and testimonies. Additionally, Nicholson has obtained favorable decisions before workers’ compensation judges, the Pennsylvania Workers’ Compensation Appeal Board, and the Commonwealth Court.

Laura A. Seider (Philadelphia) focuses her practice on defense litigation for corporate entities including commercial motor vehicle companies, national commercial carriers, large retail chains, convenience stores, and their insurers, in matters in Pennsylvania and New Jersey. Seider has represented clients before both state and federal courts. She also handles arbitrations, alternative dispute resolution, and trials. As an experienced litigator, Seider has defended clients in personal injury cases involving premises liability claims, slip and fall claims, and motor vehicle accidents.
