Esteemed Philadelphia Attorney and Weber Gallagher Partner Joseph Goldberg Announces Retirement

Philadelphia, PA – December 30, 2025 –After a distinguished career spanning fifty (50) years, Joseph Goldberg, Managing Partner of Weber Gallagher’s Civil Rights and Municipal Liability and Professional Liability practices, will be stepping down from his role at the firm’s Philadelphia office effective Dec. 31, 2025. He leaves a legacy that has shaped the firm and inspired generations of attorneys.

“Joe Goldberg has been a mentor, leader, and advocate for excellence in the legal profession,” said Andrew Indeck, Chairman. “His commitment to clients and the community has set a standard for all of us at Weber Gallagher.”

A graduate of the University of Pennsylvania Law School, Goldberg has been a cornerstone of the legal community since 1975. His career has been defined by unwavering commitment to clients, including private employers, municipalities, religious institutions, transportation companies, and higher education institutions, across complex matters such as catastrophic loss, civil rights, employment law, municipal liability, and product liability. Known for his exceptional skill in managing high-profile litigation, Goldberg has successfully defended clients in cases involving psychiatric and medical malpractice, sexual abuse, and assault. His expertise extends to the healthcare sector, where he has built a strong track record defending practitioners, long-term care facilities, and hospitals. He also provided counsel to employers, supervisors, managers, and business owners in employment matters.

Throughout his tenure, Goldberg has been recognized not only for his legal expertise and professionalism, but also for his mentorship, integrity, and generosity. Colleagues and clients alike have valued his thoughtful guidance, steadfast support, and dedication to the highest standards of the profession. His leadership has fostered a culture of excellence, collaboration, and respect within the firm, and his influence has helped shape the careers of many attorneys who have worked alongside him. Goldberg’s widely attended program, Zen and the Art of Litigation Defense, culminated in a final virtual presentation hosted by the Philadelphia Association of Defense Counsel in October. His program distilled a practical, soup‑to‑nuts approach to defending civil cases, earning strong endorsements from Weber Gallagher colleagues, among others, who credit the program with elevating their work.

Over his career, Goldberg has earned numerous accolades, including an AV Preeminent® rating from Martindale-Hubbell for over 35 years, recognition as a Pennsylvania Super Lawyer since 2005, and inclusion in The Best Lawyers in America for Product Liability Litigation, Personal Injury Litigation, and Litigation – Labor and Employment. In 2020, he was named a Best Lawyer in Pennsylvania by the Wall Street Journal.

As Goldberg embarks on his next chapter, Weber Gallagher extends our deepest gratitude and best wishes for a fulfilling retirement.
