Dena Economou represents domestic and international insurers in complex insurance coverage litigation nationwide. With 35 years of experience, she focuses her practice on high exposure coverage disputes involving environmental, asbestos and health hazard claims, toxic torts, products liability, personal injury, and matters arising under primary and excess policies.

Her practice includes advising and defending insurers in sophisticated coverage matters involving construction defect claims, professional liability, health hazard exposures, and catastrophic loss events. She serves as national counsel for some of the leading insurance companies in the industry. Dena regularly addresses complex issues related to defense and indemnity obligations, trigger and allocation, additional insured status, umbrella and excess coverage, and interpretation of policy language across multiple policy periods. Her environmental and asbestos practice includes experience addressing the impact of an insured’s bankruptcy on the defense and payment of such claims and protecting insurers’ interests within bankruptcy proceedings.

Dena also advises insurers on personal lines coverage matters, including homeowners’ and automobile liability policies, as well as litigation to recover substantial retrospective premiums. As part of her broader coverage practice, she represents insurers in bad faith and other extra contractual litigation.

In addition to her litigation practice, Dena regularly presents training programs for insurers on coverage and claims handling issues. She has been recognized as an Illinois Super Lawyer for 19 consecutive years from 2008 through 2026, is a Fellow of the American College of Coverage Counsel, and has served as an Adjunct Professor of Business Law at the Illinois Institute of Technology.
