Adam Alster focuses his practice on complex first and third party insurance coverage matters. He represents multinational insurance carriers in high-stakes litigation involving a broad spectrum of policies, including property, commercial general liability, environmental, E&O, D&O, cyber, professional liability, construction, and automobile.
With over two decades of experience handling large-scale disputes, Adam has navigated multi-million and billion-dollar coverage matters involving intricate allocation issues and multiple insurers on the risk. His practice extends to complex property insurance litigation, including matters involving difficult construction-related challenges, as well as the defense of mass tort and environmental claims involving asbestos and chemical toxins.
Adam serves as a trusted advisor to insurers in the pre-litigation stages of claims, providing the technical analysis necessary to mitigate risk before it reaches the courtroom. He is also experienced in handling subrogation actions on behalf of both insurers and policyholders, ensuring that recovery opportunities are maximized through aggressive and thorough investigation. Beyond insurance-specific matters, he defends companies and individuals in commercial, class action, and mass-tort litigation.
In an era of increasingly data-heavy litigation, Adam has developed a distinct skillset in e-discovery. He focuses on leveraging advanced technology to improve the efficiency of discovery in matters involving large-scale document productions. By streamlining the identification, collection, and review of electronically stored information, Adam ensures that even the most document-intensive lawsuits proceed with precision and speed, allowing the legal team to focus on core merits and strategy.
Adam brings a unique strategic advantage to his clients: a 360-degree view of the insurance industry. Earlier in his career, he litigated on behalf of policyholders, and he is able to anticipate the opposition’s arguments and evaluate claims from both sides of the aisle. This insight is further bolstered by his experience working in-house at an environmental insurer, where he gained firsthand knowledge of the internal procedures and operational priorities of insurance carriers.
Adam has appeared in trial and appellate courts across New Jersey and New York and in several federal jurisdictions, and has appeared as counsel pro hac vice in other jurisdictions, including Delaware, Florida, Illinois, and Tennessee.
