Edward “Fitz” Fitzgerald Dunne is a commercial litigator with experience handling matters at both the trial and appellate levels in federal and state courts, as well as in arbitration and mediation. His practice focuses on professional liability, construction law, products liability, insurance, and complex litigation.
Edward regularly represents professionals, including lawyers, architects, structural engineers, professional engineers, directors and officers, real estate brokers, accountants, and insurance producers, in a wide range of disputes. His experience includes malpractice claims, personal injury matters, design defect litigation, copyright disputes, and breach of fiduciary duty claims. In addition, he represents insurers, companies, distributors, owners, developers, contractors, and material suppliers in matters involving product liability, construction defects, delay and injury claims, fair housing and accessibility issues, mechanics’ liens, employment disputes, and insurance coverage.
Edward has significant appellate experience and has briefed and argued appeals before state and federal appellate courts on issues involving insurance coverage, professional malpractice, construction law, reinsurance, contract interpretation, privilege, defamation, and attorney fee entitlement. He is also actively involved in contract drafting, review, and negotiation, and is well versed in AIA form agreements, CGC contracts, and ConsensusDocs.
In conjunction with his practice, Edward has written extensively and presented on topics relevant to the professional liability and construction industries, including risk management, contractual provisions affecting design professionals, excavation and earth retention issues, directors and officers liability, and attorney fee standards.
Prior to entering private practice, Edward served as a law clerk to the Hon. George W. Lindberg of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois.
