Robert Badgley concentrates his practice on insurance and reinsurance coverage matters. He regularly serves as coverage and monitoring counsel for insurers on professional liability insurance programs designed for a wide range of professionals, including judges, arbitrators, mediators, attorneys, polygraphists, handwriting experts, district attorneys, public defenders, and other professionals.
Robert has represented domestic and global insurers and reinsurers in complex reinsurance coverage disputes and provides coverage advice on large and sophisticated liability and first-party property claims. His experience includes representing cedents and reinsurers in reinsurance litigation and arbitration involving a broad range of subject matters, including retrocession, long-tail casualty exposures, run-off and insolvency issues, excess of loss claims, rescission, catastrophic losses, asbestos and pollution claims, life and disability matters, first-party property losses, mining claims, and high-profile events such as 9/11 and Enron.
Robert has argued and been admitted pro hac vice in federal courts in Wisconsin, Missouri, and Massachusetts at the appellate level, as well as in courts in New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, and Massachusetts.
In addition to his insurance and reinsurance practice, Robert is widely recognized for his experience in internet domain name disputes. He is the author of the 600-page treatise “Domain Name Disputes,” published by Aspen Law & Business, which has been cited in numerous internet domain name arbitration decisions. He is certified by the World Intellectual Property Organization (an agency of the United Nations) as one of its designated panelists for internet domain name disputes and has served as an arbitrator or presiding panelist in more than 700 cases.
