Christine McGuigan provides a robust defense and practical advice to businesses in the retail, hospitality, and entertainment sectors facing civil litigation, including premises liability claims.

Christine handles a variety of general liability matters and has particular experience with high value premises liability claims. She assists clients in matters of negligent security, dram shop liability, escalator/elevator incidents, slip or trip and fall, property damage, and others, providing advice focused on achieving the client’s business goals. She is adept at pursuing dispositive motions to avoid protracted litigation and obtaining favorable settlements in complex negotiations. When litigation is required, she is an aggressive and effective advocate for her clients.

Christine concentrates her practice defending claims against members of the hospitality industry and their insurance companies. Her clients include casinos, hotels, restaurants, taverns, apartment complexes, shopping centers, stadiums, amusement centers, professional sports teams, fitness centers, churches, parking facilities, gas stations, municipalities, and more.

Beyond litigation, Christine also offers personalized risk management assessments to aid businesses in training their staff in proactive safety measures and in implementing and enforcing compliant policies. She also advises clients in the immediate aftermath of an incident on investigating and documenting the incident appropriately and to minimize potential liability.

Previously, Christine served as an associate general counsel to a publicly-traded financial services company, where she provided strategic advice and legal counsel to senior leadership on all aspects of risk management. She has broad experience in both law and business, having also served as a motions court law clerk for the First Judicial District of Pennsylvania and previously clerked for the U.S. Attorneys’ Office, Fraud Unit in Philadelphia, the Federal Defender Association, and Nationwide Mutual Insurance Company.

Cases and Experience

Successfully defended premises clients, such as casinos, stadiums, bars, shopping centers, restaurants, hotels and lodging establishments, and other members of the hospitality industry in countless cases involving alleged personal injuries.

Obtained orders successfully precluding the presentation of punitive damages in numerous premises liability matters, including security cases and dram shop litigation.

Negotiated the voluntary withdrawal of numerous premises liability matters upon good faith consultation with opposing counsel and the presentation of defense evidence.

Investigated and obtained conviction against claimant bringing a fraudulent lawsuit against a premises client.
