Philadelphia-based Weber Gallagher Simpson Stapleton Fires & Newby is combining with Chicago insurance coverage boutique Karbal, Cohen, Economou, Silk & Dunne, adding 11 lawyers, including eight partners and three associates, in the move.
Weber Gallagher managing partner and chairman Andrew Indeck framed the merger, effective May 1, as a bid to grow under increasingly difficult conditions for midmarket firms.
“It’s become more difficult in the midmarket to compete. The requirements of clients arebecoming higher, and things are getting more expensive,” Indeck said. “All of these things aredriving consolidation in the market. It makes it much more difficult for smaller or midsize firms tocompete, and we want to be one of the ones standing when the dust settles. That is the biggerdriver of our growth, not just with the Karbal firm.”
